Part 1 of our 4-part interview with Crotchpot, singer for -the jenna bush-.

Q: So, let's talk about the music. Can you describe it for me?

A: It's the sound of 1,000 animals singing in perfect unison, the moment they're getting run over by some sort of trash collection vehicle (laughing). Seriously, we call it "rock and roll for the new millenium". It's a stripped down look at the incomprehensible world we live it. The band reflects that.

Q: That's rather... bleak.
A: It's a bleak world.

Q: I guess... Are you affected a lot by world politics? It definitely appears in your lyrics.
A: Lots of things move me, especially things that I can't move back.

Q: Let's talk about the song "Hans Blix".
A: Yes, Hans Blix. The weapon of mass destruction. It's about knowledge. It's about truth. It's about politics of fear and control. It's about the sexual politics for fear and control. It's about bling-bling.

Q: Have you answered my question?
A: Sometimes the best answer is a non-answer. I'm working on my future career in politics.

Q: Do you see yourself ever doing that?
A: As a fringe candidate, sure. Something I could do part-time to raise awareness of certain issues.

Q: Here in the U.S.?
A: Maybe. Maybe not. With the way the political winds are blowing here, I'll be in Denmark soon. The age of consent is lower there. Maybe I'll try Denmark.

Q. There are 6 tracks on this EP. Any songs that you would have liked to include but didn't?
A: 3 or 4, yeah. Most heartbreaking is probably "I Just Dropped one". Jerry (Hatrick - TJB's guitarist) tried to lay down the melody but it just wasn't there. I tried humming it, singing it, miming it, the works. But, alas, it wasn't to be. Maybe that'll be on our album, whenever we get a chance and a real budget to record that.

Q: Why'd you do this one on the cheap?
A: For the immediacy. The times demanded that we release something soon. Booking studio times brings in so much overhead that I wouldn't be doing this interview for another 3 months at the very least. "Hans Blix" needed to be heard now. Also, we're poor thanks to years of abusing our bodies with expensive addictions.

Q: Will you do a quick tour to coincide with its release?
A: Being 3 weeks away, we might be able to book a few smaller venues around the northeast and run with it from there. We've obviously kept our connections from our previous band's incarnation.

In part two, Crotchpot answers questions about Jerry Hatrick's choice of instrument wipes, unhealthy musical habits, and the band break-up that led to -the jenna bush-'s formation.
